How to Combat Hair Loss While Taking Blood Pressure Medication

Because I’m not in the business of selling dreams I did some research to figure out what is actually happening to women’s hair while taking blood pressure medication. So let’s dive in. This specific type of hair loss/thinning caused by blood pressure medication is telogen effluvium, or short-term, temporary hair loss. This occurs in the “resting” phase of the hair follicle, but new hair growth continues. Blood medication such as Beta blockers, including the following, can cause hair loss: * metoprolol (Lopressor) * timolol (Blocadren) * propranolol (Inderal and Inderal LA) * atenolol (Tenormin) * nadolol (Corgard) ACE inhibitors can also lead to thinning hair. These include: * enalapril (Vasotec) * lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril) * captopril (Capoten) There are a few things that will help to combat this issue but first and foremost DO NOT STOP TAKING YOUR MEDICATION WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR. I’m not an advocate for big pharma TRUST but it would be irresponsible of me to recommend otherwise. Your doctor may be able to prescribe something without this side effect or lower the dosage. Did you know that our Crown Growth Collection includes nutrients and minerals like vitamin B, Biotin and Zinc? All of which are very helpful in combating hair loss due to blood pressure medications. I read where they actually recommend finding hair products with zinc in particular. ‘According to the Huntington College of Health Sciences, getting an adequate amount of zinc in your diet is imperative for the health of your follicles. Additionally, applying the mineral directly to your scalp may help combat hair loss and encourage regrowth.’ You also want to stay away from heat as that will only make things worse. This means no blow drying, flat ironing, hot curling, NO HEAT. If you’re familiar with heat damage you know that it’s number one characteristic is thin hair so imagine the damage, THE BREAKAGE that can be caused by heat in combination with your medication. It’s not just important what you’re putting on your hair but what you’re putting in your body. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not only going to help your hair growth but it will literally improve your quality of life and potential get you off of the medications for good. Let me recommend following @afrogirlfitness on Instagram. They are 1M followers strong and they’re about whole body health. Maybe you will stumble across a healthy life best practice that’ll work for you. Bottom line is this is an health issue at its core and I just want you to have the information to help you make this healthy hair growth journey easier for you. I hope this was helpful 💜 Peace and blessings...
